Stream and/or Download Allan Kingdom's 'Northern Lights' Mixtape
If St. Paul, Minnesota's Allan Kingdom hit your radar with his guest spot on Kanye West's "All Day" in 2015, here's the second look you've gotta take. Northern Lights is the 13-song follow-up to 2014's Future Memoirs; it's streaming on Soundcloud and available as a one-click free download on Kingdom's site. The hook on the opening track's a knockout:
'Ye told me, "Drive slow," but ain’t nobody say, "Homie fly low"
So now I’m bout to take you high as ever
While whispering, "Just stay you, but change too"
You gotta change too
Northern Lights features Chronixx, Gloss Gang, Jared Evan and D.R.A.M., whose "Cha Cha" became the backbone of Drake's "Hotline Bling." "There's no need to copy out here, it's too many styles to be found, too many things to be said," Kingdom says in the outro to "Monkey See," and you'll hear the evidence all over the tape. Vibe notes that the 22-year-old-as-of-yesterday has beats here from Plain Pat and Swizzy Mack, "but Allen handles a bulk of the production himself."
