Allan Kingdom's free Northern Lights album is far and away one of our favorites of the young year 2016. The 22-year-old Saint Paul, Minn. phenom—twice GRAMMY-nominated for his shining participation in Kanye West's "All Day"—has the kind of originality you can't look away from. And it's all up front in the title track's new video.
Directed by Kron, "Northern Lights" features Kingdom scarfed out in snowy climes, his bars showing up in puffy white breaths. It captures the rapper/singer/producer's multi-multifaceted self beautifully. Plus, those moves!
Following the release of his record, Allan Kingdom had a long, all-encompassing talk with Fuse about his work:
"I just kind of feel like I never fit into a box in general, a place or a background or a color in general, so I my art naturally just reflects that. The album sounds like the shirt I was wearing on the cover. It's all different pieces put together to make one thing, that for some reason it's dope, for some reason it works."
