Who needs a major label? Johnny Jewel certainly doesn't. The multi-instrumentalist, producer, and composer is one of the most influential forces in indie music right now, and he's accomplished that without the financial muscle of one of the big labels behind him.
Through his work as a member and songwriter of such groups as Glass Candy and Chromatics, Jewel's noirish take on synthpop and disco has inspired the likes of Twin Shadow, Purity Ring, and Chvrches. Keeping with his DIY mindset, Jewel releases most of his musical projects through Italians Do It Better, a label at which he oversees every aspect.
Since he's such a prolific artist, we wanted to give you a quick overview of Jewel's key musical projects.
Glass Candy finds Jewel joining forces with vocalist Ida No to create a seductive strain of synthpop that incorporates a heavy dose of Italo disco–like keyboard melodies and new wave–inspired vocals. 2015 will see the release of Glass Candy’s third studio album, Body Work.
