Kevin Gates Describes Inspiration to Take Music Seriously: Interview

With two mixtapes charting in the Top 40 on the Billboard 200, Kevin Gates is worth watching as he gears up for his full-length debut Islah, dropping early next year. FM sat down with the Louisiana-bred rapper to get to know him a little better, and the Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J collaborator told us about how he first entered the hip hop game by detailing some extremely humble early origins:

"I think I was in middle when I wrote my first rap. I had a little machine I used to record at the house; it was raggedy, it was bullshit. I started recording myself on a computer at my grandmother's house. After that, I started going to a regular studio."
