Ty Dolla $ign: My Incarcerated Brother Influenced 'Free TC'

Ty Dolla $ign's debut full-length Free TC has arrived more than two years after his breakout hit "Paranoid" was released. The L.A. rapper-singer tells us that the long-awaited LP is a very personal project, and that some of the half-dozen singles that preceded the album didn't make the cut.

"I named my album Free TC because my brother's in jail right now for something he didn't do and his name's TC. I want people to feel that even though the songs are fun, I'm having conversations with him throughout the whole album where you're feeling what he's going through...the songs I really liked, I kept them, the songs that just meant something to me. "Drop That Kitty" and "Stand For," everybody thought they were going to be on the album, but in the end it just didn't fit the full sequence. It's all about the vibe."
