Leon Bridges Talks Message & Music Video for 'River': Interview

Leon Bridges' unique brand of soul music has gotten him embraced not by just by R&B crowds, but by alternative audiences, rock radio and mainstream listeners. We're proud to call him the latest FM First artist, and believe the universal message of his new single "River" will expose him to many more fans.

"The river has always been symbolic of salvation," Bridges explains. "You could go back to the '40s and '50s, a lot of the gospel groups would use the river as a metaphor. Even in the Bible. River is just symbolic of baptism. It doesn't have to be literally being baptized in a river, but just believing."

Bridges adds that the stunning music video, which premiered on Monday (Feb. 1), is an understated representation of that idea:

"It shows that within the struggle, there's always hope at the end of the tunnel. 'River' is just realizing the need for change. And basically it says, that through the chaos and crazy things going around in this world, at the end of the day, I believe god is hope at the end of it all."
